Legislative Day is January 24, 2018
During the coming General Assembly session, we anticipate the introduction of two bills regarding school nurse staffing similar to the legislation that was introduced last year by Del. Mark Dudenhefer. The patrons of these bills will be Del. Brenda Pogge (Yorktown area) in the House of Delegates and Senator Richard Stuart (King George County (Part), Prince William County (Part), Spotsylvania County (Part), Stafford County (Part), Westmoreland County (Part)) in the State Senate.
Here are three ways you can help.
First, our legislative day is scheduled for Wednesday, January 24, 2018. We need you to be there! The day will be busy, but fun. We’ll meet for a briefing at 8:45am followed by visits with our state delegates and senators. After being introduced during the floor session of the House and Senate, we’ll meet again for lunch and a debriefing session. See below for a registration link. After you register, we will send you more information to help prepare for the day including how to contact your delegate and state senator, meeting locations, schedules, and so forth. Please CLICK HERE TO REGISTER by January 12th, 2018.
Second, during the legislative session, you’ll be receiving emails from Nick Oyler and Becky Bowers-Lanier asking for you to contact your legislators. Please respond to these emails quickly as the General Assembly session is fast and furious. When emailing your legislators, your personal email address, not your school/work address, should be used.
Lastly, we need parents who are willing to advocate for school nurses at the General Assembly. If you know a mom or a dad (or a student) with availability to speak on behalf of school nurses during the 2018 General Assembly session in Richmond (possibly with little notice), please get permission to share their contact information with Becky Bowers-Lanier (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Nick Oyler (email@example.com).
Thanks for your support!
