Each year the Virginia Association of School Nurses (VASN) recognizes the following Excellence Awards at our Annual Conference in November.
- School Nurse of the Year
- School Nurse Administrator of the Year
- Private or Parochial School Nurse of the Year
These prestigious awards honor excellence in school nursing practice. The deadline to submit nominations is October 5 of each year. Awardees will be announced at the Annual Conference in November.
The National Association of School Nursing (NASN) defines school nursing as a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning. The school nurses in your district engage in professional nursing practice, use the nursing process for decision-making, document the services that are provided, and assure confidentiality. As professional nurses, they address the physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs of their students. In addition, they demonstrate the support of student success in the learning process as the ultimate outcome of practice.
Administrators and nurses understand the clear correlation between health and students’ academic achievement. This nomination is a wonderful way to recognize your school nurse administrator’s invaluable contributions to school-aged youth, the educational team, and your learning community. It would be very rewarding to have one of Virginia’s own so honored!
Please consider nominating your school nurse, school nurse administrator, or private or parochial school nurse by submitting a nomination portfolio to email@example.com.
