Private/Parochial School Nurse of the Year Award

Nominate Virginia's Next Private/Parochial School Nurse of the Year

Each year the Virginia Association of School Nurses (VASN) recognizes the Private or Parochial School Nurse of the Year at our November conference. This prestigious award honors excellence in non-public school nursing practice. Our association invites private school administrators and private school nurses to nominate a private school nurse for this award by October 5th.

The National Association of School Nursing (NASN) defines school nursing as a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

The private school nurse in your organization engages in professional nursing practice, uses the nursing process for decision-making, documents the services that are provided, and assures confidentiality. As a professional nurse, she or he addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs of their students. In addition, the school nurse demonstrates the support of student success in the learning process as the ultimate outcome of practice.

Administrators and nurses understand the clear correlation between health and students' academic achievement. This nomination is a wonderful way to recognize a private school nurse's invaluable contributions to school-aged youth, the educational team, and the learning community. It would be very rewarding to have one of Virginia's own so honored! Please consider nominating a private school nurse by submitting a nomination portfolio.
