Prince William County School Board approves Reclassification of School Nurses

June 7th, 2017 – The Prince William County School Board approved the Reclassification of School Nurses, with a Bachelor’s degree or above, to be moved to the teacher pay scale commensurate as teaching faculty are placed on that scale. The required funds, in the amount of $840,160, were approved to be drawn from the general reserve for the 2017–18 academic year. Kudos to Ms. Teresa A. Polk, MSA, BSN, RN, Supervisor of School Health Services and the Prince William County School Nurses for their efforts to have the School Nurses recognized and compensated commensurate to their education as nursing professionals and experience – and for all of the ongoing health services they provide to the students of PWCS!  Also a huge THANK YOU to PWCS Superintendent, Dr. Steven L. Walts, Ed.D. and the majority of the Prince William County School Board for stepping up and serving as a model of best practice in School Health Services for all of Virginia’s School Divisions. Dr. Walts and the PWCS Board are a shining example in their willingness to learn about what school nurses really do and taking the appropriate actions to recognize School Nurses as the highly educated licensed nursing professional school staff that they are!
